Editorial Services FAQs

What editorial services do you offer?

Our most popular editorial service is our manuscript assessment. This service pairs you with one of our expert editors who specializes in your genre and writing style. They then read your entire manuscript and send you a detailed editorial report for you of 3,500+ words (for manuscripts of at least 60,000 words), providing practical ways to improve your narrative, and exploring topics such as commercial viability, characterization, tone, plot, etc. This is a great way to get initial feedback on your manuscript and to structure your edits. You can read more about this service here: Manuscript Assessment for Your Novel or Non-Fiction – Jericho Writers.

We also offer developmental edits and agent submission pack reviews for more complete manuscripts that are nearing the agent submission phase. If you're interested we also offer copyediting services, these include proofreading, copyediting, and line-editing.

The majority of our editorial services are priced based off of your word count. After you purchase the service you'll receive a link via email to upload your manuscript along with any specific questions you might want your editor to answer. From there we'll work to match you to an editor and will notify you once we've found one. After that you can expect to hear directly from your editor after four weeks.

What kind of editorial service should I go for?

It all depends on your aims, goals and what you would like to get from your editorial service. If you're planning to self-publish, you might want to look at our copy-editing services for a final polish. If you're planning to submit your work to literary agents or just want some structural feedback, then our Manuscript Assessment, Developmental Edit or Agent Submission Pack may be best suited for you.

Are there any formatting requirements?

Please use a Word document. Don't forget to number your pages and double space your lines, and use an easy-to-read font like Times New Roman 12.

Feel free to send a synopsis along, if you’ve got one, and any other background information about your book, like your genre, targeted readership, etc.

Do I get to choose my editor?

We usually assign manuscripts to editors ourselves (as we have a close working relationship and know each editor’s preferences, strengths, etc.) but you’re welcome to look at our editor profiles (https://jerichowriters.com/editors/) and include a shortlist in your submission form. We’ll do our best to match you with your preferred editor, but we can’t guarantee editor availability before purchase.

I just paid, how can I upload my documents?

You should be sent an email with instructions on how to upload your documents shortly. If this has not arrived, please email us at editorial@jerichowriters.com and we'd be happy to help.
