What is Path to Publication?
Path to Publication is a tutored course designed to help you navigate the world of traditional publishing and leave you with the best chance of getting your book published. You will gain invaluable insights into crafting a compelling submission package, pitching your work effectively, the art of author branding and understanding the business of books and where your novel fits.
What is included in the course?
Each week, you’ll complete a writing exercise and receive feedback from both Kate and your course mates. You’ll also join a live webinar, where you’ll dive deep into the week’s key topic, ask questions and share ideas. At the end of the course, you‘ll have the opportunity to read your work to a panel of literary agents at the end-of-course Online Showcase. After your reading, you’ll receive live feedback from the literary agents. At the end of the course, an extract from your novel will be featured in our course anthology, which we send to our database of literary agent contacts, and you’ll also receive a free one-to-one session with a literary agent where you can discuss your submission pack.
Are there live calls included in the course?
There will be a live call each week with the tutor and other course students. In Week 4 and Week 8, there will be additional special guest webinars, so there will be two calls that week. All calls will be held in the evening (GMT/BST) on Zoom.
All calls on the course will be recorded and available to be watched back on the platform the following day.
What support will be available to me?
You’ll get regular support from your tutor and course mates, who will offer constructive feedback on your work every week. You’ll be able to ask questions during the live weekly seminars and can reach out to the Jericho Writers team at any time if you need anything else. We’re always happy to help!
What feedback can I expect to receive during the course?
Weekly feedback on your course assignments will be shared in an online forum, where your tutor and peers will contribute their thoughts. To help ensure everyone can learn from discussion of one another’s work, comments will be visible to all students currently studying on the course. At the end of the course, you’ll receive live feedback from literary agents in our Online Showcase, and you’ll also get a one-to-one session with a literary agent to discuss your submission pack.
What will I get from the course?
After completing the course, you will have:
- A deeper understanding of the traditional publishing industry to help you position yourself for success when querying agents.
- Knowledge of how to avoid common mistakes made by writers querying for the first time.
- A high-quality submission package.
You’ll also get:
- Live feedback from literary agents in our Online Showcase.
- One-to-one agent feedback on your submission package.
- An anthology entry of your first 500 words and pitch sent to our database of literary agents.
Can you guarantee I’ll be published if I take this course?
We cannot guarantee you will be published once you have taken the course, nor can we guarantee that you will sign with a literary agent. What we can guarantee is that you will give yourself the best chance possible when it comes to submitting to agents, cutting out common mistakes made during the querying process and understanding your role as an author.
