What is the timing of the Ultimate Novel Writing Programme like?

What is the timing of the Ultimate Novel Writing Programme like?

How much time will the programme take?

The programme takes place entirely online, so is tailored to fit around your schedules. The main aim of the programme is to support you in writing and finishing your own manuscript during the 12 months. This will take dedication – the more you put into the programme, the more you get out!

We estimate that you will spend about 10 hours per week on the programme:

•             1 hour per week in tutor or mentor Zoom sessions

•             3-4 hours per week doing reading, learning tasks, and peer review

•             4-5 hours writing time

Please note that, although we will support and guide you along the way, it is ultimately up to you how long you spend writing each week, and everyone works at different paces.

I have a full time job / family commitments. Can I do this programme in my spare time?

Yes. We purposely designed this programme to fit in around your other commitments; flexibility is one of the many benefits of online novel writing courses. Bear in mind that we will be asking you to write (or rewrite) your novel, as well as engage with teaching material and other online/offline events throughout the year. We recommend approximately 10 hours should be spent on the programme each week to get the most from it. If you think you can manage that, we’ll be happy to accommodate you – and of course we’ll be as flexible as we can be.

What time are the monthly calls?

The monthly webinars typically take place during the first week of the month at 7pm GMT, but this time may vary. Your Personal Tutor will discuss the best time for the group workshops at the start of the programme, and will do their best to find a time that accommodates everyone. Your 1-2-1 sessions will take place at a time that suits you. All webinars and group workshops will be recorded, so if you can’t make the live session, you’ll be able to watch the replay.

Do I need to be available at set times every week?

For the most part, you’ll be able to work to a schedule that suits you. There will be at least two monthly Zoom calls. All calls will be recorded, so if you can’t make the live session, you’ll be able to watch the replay.

What happens in the first month?

The first month of the programme will be dedicated to meeting the tutors, your Personal Tutor, and writing peers – as well as creating a solid plan to develop your idea throughout the programme. You will then start working on your first draft alongside monthly tutorials and mentoring sessions. For a further breakdown of what to expect from the programme, please refer to the brochure.
