Tutors and Mentoring - Novel Writing Course

Tutors and Mentoring - Novel Writing Course

When will I learn who my Personal Tutor is?
Your Personal Tutor will be confirmed the week before the course is due to begin. We will take the preferences stated on your application into account when allocating your Personal Tutor, however the final decision will be made by the tutors once all the students have been confirmed on the course. This is to ensure you will be allocated to the tutor who is best placed to support you on the course and offer guidance with your novel.

How many tutors?
There are currently 7 tutors in total: 5 based in the UK, 1 in Australia and 1 based in the USA.

How am I assigned a mentor?
Our tutors have been chosen because they all have different specialisations and work across different genres. One will become your Personal Tutor and will read 3000 words of your work every month.
While you can request to work with a particular tutor in your application, you will be matched with the best-suited tutor for your project. If you’d really like to change, just let us know and we’ll see what we can do!

Who will be in my Tutor Group?
You will share your Personal Tutor with up to 11 other students, and work with your group closely throughout the course, in Tutor Group calls and peer feedback activities. Many of our alumni go on to form lifelong bonds and continue to support each other long after the course has finished.

Which genres do the Tutors specialise in?
  1. Natasha Bell: Psychological suspense, women’s fiction, queer fiction, and any stories that blur the line between truth and imagination.
  2. Rosie Fiore: Contemporary, literary, book club, romance, historical fiction, young adult, and crime and thriller.
  3. Helen Francis: Contemporary, women’s fiction, literary, crime, thrillers, and young adult fiction, amongst a long list of genres!
  4. Sam Jordison: Contemporary, literary, science fiction, fantasy, crime, thriller, and satire, and creative non-fiction (including memoir).
  5. Philip Womack: Children's books, young adult, literary fiction, fantasy, science fiction and literary biography.
  6. Lindsey Alexander: Historical fiction, romance, mystery/thriller, literary fiction, young adult, and humour.
  7. Liz Monument: Dystopian, science fiction, historical, fantasy, literary fusions, and anything quirky or genre-bending.
