Who is the Novel Writing Course for?

This course is perfect for anyone serious about writing a novel and seeing it through to completion. Ideally, students on the course have already started working on a draft they’d like to write and polish – even if you’re only a few chapters in. The mentoring aspect of the course will be completely personalised to you, so we’ll work from whatever your starting point happens to be, and provide you with all the writing tips and advice you need.

I have just started work on my novel, is this course suitable for me?
Of course! If you are serious about finishing your novel, this course is for you. As long as you have a solid idea of what you want to write, we’ll be able to help. The course will be tailored to suit your needs, so we’ll work from whatever your starting point happens to be, and provide you with all the writing tips and advice you require.

I have already finished my draft, is this course suitable for me?
Definitely – think of this course as an opportunity to hone your novel and get it into the best shape it can be, to give you the best possible chance of success when you send it off to agents. During the eight months, you will revisit your draft with fresh eyes, working closely with your tutor to make sure that your novel works on every level. You will be exploring the key tenets of creative writing, from developing a gripping plot through to writing a great ending, so you have the knowledge you need to produce a book that’s brilliantly crafted on every level.

What genres does the course suit?
All genres including creative non-fiction, YA and middle grade. Younger children’s work might not be suitable – but if there’s a market for your book, we want you. The course is not suitable for non-fiction that doesn’t have a narrative element to it.

Can I meet the tutors before committing?
You can book a 20 minute one-to-one video call with tutors on the Novel Writing Course for just £20, through our Meet Your Tutor sessions. We know how important it is to feel comfortable and confident when committing to a writing course, so these sessions are designed to give you an insight into how you might work alongside your tutor, and whether this course is the right next step for you.

You can find more information about the Novel Writing Course in the course brochure, which you can download here.
